Navy officials identified the U.S. sailor killed last weekend in a motorcycle crash in Sicily as Petty Officer 3rd Class Joseph Kenney.

Kenney, 20, worked at the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Depot at Naval Air Station, Sigonella. He was killed Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding on hit an Italian cargo truck, said base spokesman Lt. Jon Groveman.

Two Italians in the truck suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, he said.

A memorial service for Kenney will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the NAS 1 chapel.

Also, a private memorial service is being held Wednesday for Petty Officer 2nd Class Akini Belle, 28, who died Thursday in a car crash as he was driving to work. The service is being held at the explosive ordnance disposal compound at NAS II.

Both incidents are under investigation, Groveman said.
