A sailor assigned to American Forces Network-Europe was found dead in a privately owned vehicle Saturday in Kaiserslautern, Germany, according to U.S. European Command.
U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Dmitry Chepusov, 31, of Edgewater, N.J., was found unresponsive and subsequently pronounced dead by German medical authorities called to the scene, EUCOM said.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our own,” said Lt. Col. Sherri Reed, commander of AFN-Europe, in a news release. “Dmitry was a true shipmate, always watching out for his fellow servicemembers. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
A private memorial service is planned for Thursday at Ramstein Air Base.
The cause of death is under investigation by U.S. and German authorities, EUCOM said.
