SEOUL — South Korea’s Defense Ministry plans to add 7,000 civilian jobs to its ranks in the next 15 years, officials confirmed late last week.

The move will push the civilian workforce from 23,000 to 30,000.

Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung was quoted in local news reports as saying: “By making most of quality civilians … we can maintain professional and capable personnel beyond the mission of supporting military staff.”
