Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations, recently visited with U.S. and coalition leaders in Manama, Bahrain, headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet.
The visit, which took place Sunday through Tuesday, is part of Roughead’s tour of the Middle East, according to a Navy news release.
He is meeting with regional naval leaders in an “effort to increase dialogue and cooperation and to ensure safety, security and prosperity within the region,” the released stated.
“I really believe that by working together and working in a cooperative way we can ensure the safety and security of this very important part of the world,” Roughead said in a statement.
During the Bahrain visit, he met with Royal Bahrain Navy Brig. Gen. Adbdulla Al Mansoori, commander of Royal Bahrain naval forces.
The Royal Bahrain navy took command of Combined Task Force 152 on March 4, marking the first time a Persian Gulf nation has spearheaded missions and operations of coalition forces operating in that region.
CTF 152 is responsible for missions in the central and south Persian Gulf.
Roughead also intends to meet with other leaders in the Middle East and Horn of Africa.
