Naval Station Rota, Spain, is looking for photos for a commemorative magazine celebrating the base’s 50th anniversary.

The magazine will be a running history of stories and photos from the base’s opening on Sept. 25, 1953, to present day, said Lt. Corey Barker, base spokesman.

The base public affairs office is particularly looking for photos that show how commands and buildings have developed, such as a photo of the air terminal when it opened.

The magazine will be distributed Sept. 26 at a family-day event, which will feature casetas with local food and drink. Some of the photos also will be used in a tent museum at the event, to be held in the port area.

Formal military ceremonies are planned for Sept. 25.

Photo submissions will be taken through the end of next week.

Take the photos to the public affairs office in the PSD building, or e-mail them to

Submissions can be mailed to: Public Affairs Office; PSC 819 Box 1; FPO AE 09645-0001. Write your name on the back of the photo, and include a self-addressed stamped (or MPS) envelope.
