CAMP LIBERTY, Baghdad — A rocket hit a gym Friday morning and killed a civilian worker, the second time a rocket attack has killed someone at this base in four days, according to Army officials.

Several people were also wounded in Friday’s attack, but no numbers were available, according to Maj. Darryl Wright, the deputy chief public affairs officer for the 3rd Infantry Division, which is stationed at Camp Liberty, one of the largest U.S. bases in Iraq.

The rocket hit shortly after 7 a.m. and sent nearby soldiers running to help. Soldiers still sleeping or getting ready for duty moved to bomb shelters, some in their bare feet.

On Tuesday night, another rocket hit the camp near a Post Exchange store. That attack killed a soldier and wounded several more, Army officials have said.
