Report: Two sailors arrested after fishing trawler is stolen
SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — Two sailors here were arrested Monday for allegedly stealing a fishing trawler.
One of the sailors was identified by Japanese wire reports as Tyler Montayne Dutcher, 21, and the other was unidentified as of press deadline.
The wire reports indicate that both sailors admitted to the allegations, and said they were drunk at the time they stole the boat worth 15 million yen ($142,000) that had been moored in Sasebo early that morning. The keys to the boat were in the ignition.
The boat belongs to a nearby seafood company. An employee heard the boat’s engine start, realized it should not be in use and contacted the company president. Police found the boat run aground about 328 yards from where it had been moored.
Inside the ship were the two sailors, who were arrested, the report added.
