AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy — A 22-year-old airman told local authorities that someone whom she met at a club in Sacile tried to sexually assault her early Saturday morning, according to Italian media reports.

An online report in Italian by the AGI news agency said the woman checked into a local hospital later Saturday. It said a suspect had been identified and police were looking for him.

First Lt. Kimberly Schaerdel, a public affairs officer at the base, confirmed the woman is stationed at Aviano, but declined to release more information. She said Italian authorities maintain jurisdiction, though base personnel are monitoring the case.
