CAMP COURTNEY, Okinawa — Petty Officer 1st Class Rhonda F. Wright has been named the top religious program specialist in the Navy and Marine Corps for 2005.

Wright, one of 850 religious program specialists in the Navy, is the leading petty officer with the 3rd Marine Division’s chaplain’s office. She was selected as best by a committee at the Navy Chief of Chaplains Office in Norfolk, Va., according to a Marines news release.

It marked the second year in a row the Hazlehurst, Ga., native was selected as Headquarters Marine Corps top religious program specialist and went on to compete and win the Navy-wide title. About 40 percent of the personnel in the program work with fleet Marine Corps forces.

“Wright has exhibited outstanding leadership skills, boundless energy and commitment to professional excellence while leading 11 religious ministry teams in Okinawa, Japan and Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 2005,” Senior Chief Angela V. Berry, leading chief petty officer with Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, was quoted in a news release as saying.

Wright loves her job and credits her success to her senior command and her grandparents, who raised her, she was quoted in the news release as saying.

“I thank my grandparents for my foundation and work ethic, and my late mother is an inspiration for me,” she said, according to the news release. “I have worked in commands that didn’t give me the freedom to get out and do things I felt were worthy. My senior leadership here has allowed me to do my job by not holding me back.”
