YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Areas inside and east of Seoul recorded 7 inches of rain Thursday, and flood warnings were issued for Area II, military officials said.

By 4 p.m. Thursday, parts of Seoul received as much as 7 inches of rain, according to the 607th Weather Squadron at Osan Air Base. The forecast called for continued showers through early Saturday morning.

In response to the deluge, Area II Support Activity officials called for using minimal staffing at operations centers and ceasing nonessential travel.

In Area II, which includes Yongsan Garrison and other Seoul bases, road conditions were considered normal.

In Area I, road conditions Thursday were so poor that only essential personnel and vehicles were to be on the road.

Saturday and Sunday were expected to be drier, though hot and muggy, according to the weather squadron.
