YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — With some Red Cross offices in South Korea looking for more volunteers, one is temporarily shutting down until a replacement can be found for a staffer who recently deployed.

The Taegu area office will be closed “until further notice,” officials said Monday. In the meantime, people in the Taegu area are being asked to work through the Kunsan Air Base office.

That facility can be reached at DSN 782-4601.

The shift is only temporary, said Red Cross staffer Ahava Martin at Yongsan Garrison, and the Taegu office will resume its normal operations once a fill-in is found.

The Area I Red Cross offices are looking for more volunteers. Earlier this year, the Area I coordinator put out a call for people to help administer Red Cross programs at camps in the 2nd Infantry Division area.

That request is being issued again, officials said.

The Red Cross has nine offices at military installations in South Korea, providing emergency communications to servicemembers as its main function.

The organization also teaches health classes such as first aid and CPR and helps with disaster relief.
