An Army private in Baghdad has been sentenced to two years in prison and given a bad-conduct discharge after being convicted of possessing pornography and other charges, the U.S. military command said this week.

At a general court-martial on Monday, Army Pvt. James R. Bickerstaff, of Company C, 1-16th Infantry Battalion, 787th Combat Service Support Battalion, 507th Corps Support Group, pleaded guilty to counts of “possession of pornography in violation of General Order #1, one specification of attempted possession of child pornography, and one specification of communicating indecent language to a child under the age of 16,” a news release read.

According to the release, in August 2006 when he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., Bickerstaff tried to persuade a 12-year-old girl to have sex with him, officials said.

Between April and May 2007, officials said, Bickerstaff “wrongfully downloaded pornographic videos to a personal laptop and an iPod. Bickerstaff also attempted to download child pornography.”
