The U.S. soldier who tumbled off a hotel balcony in downtown Bamberg, Germany, this week was not alone at the time of his fall, according to German police.
U.S. authorities have been mum on just about every detail of the incident, which occurred about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The Army wouldn’t even provide the general condition of the soldier after the fall, saying only that he was taken to a local medical facility for treatment.
A German police officer familiar with the case said there were two soldiers on the balcony at the time of the incident. The police source said the soldier who fell broke his cervical vertebrae, but that his injuries are not life-threatening.
The police officer did not say from what floor the soldier fell.
On Thursday, an Army spokesman said the injured soldier is assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, which is headquartered in Vicenza, Italy.
The spokesman said the incident is under investigation.
