Lisa Bassham broke into tears when she first spotted her husband, Sgt. Lester Bassham, march into the Hall of Champions gymnasium Thursday evening at Baumholder, Germany.

“We’re definitely ready to have him home,” she said, “It’s been a long time.”

Bassham of the 24th Brigade Support Battalion was among 255 soldiers from the 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team to be welcomed back to Baumholder after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

The soldiers, among the brigade’s first to return, were greeted with deafening screams by family and friends. And then after being released, there were long hugs and kisses from wives and children.

Spc. Kasey Dell received many pecks on the check and nose from his 3-year-old daughter Esther.

“It feels great to be home,” he said. “I just keep getting kisses.”
