YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — More than 40 students from the middle and high school levels got a taste of the theatrical arts during the Vivace Spring Break workshop here.

Participants learned about stage combat and makeup, auditions, music and dance from various theater professionals.

The workshop, held last week at the Taiyo Community Center, was part of the annual Vivace Performing Arts Program, which introduces youth to numerous aspects of theater.

“The program helps expose our youth to the wonderful world of the arts,” said Betsy Fitzgerald, director of the Vivace Performing Arts Program.

“There is a huge amount of talented kids here at Yokota, and many of these kids have been coming to this program since it started in 2000.”

Fitzgerald said she hopes to expand the program to include adult classes and theatrical education.
