Pakistan takes helm of coalition maritime operations
Pakistan on Monday became the first country in the Middle East to take the helm of coalition maritime operations in the region.
Pakistani Adm. Shahid Igbal relieved Dutch Navy Commodore Hank Ort as commander of Combined Task Force 150 during a ceremony in Manama, Bahrain, according to a U.S. Navy 5th Fleet news release.
U.S. and coalition forces of CTF 150 patrol the region’s waters, including the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, and the Arabian Sea, to combat terrorism and stop piracy, smuggling and trafficking.
Currently, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States make up CTF 150 with Pakistan.
