TOKYO — Military officials are investigating vandalism at Hardy Barracks in Tokyo in which someone appears to have thrown eight glass bottles filled with red paint over the fence line onto the helicopter pad at the installation, according to an Army spokesman.

Hardy Barracks, a satellite of the Army base Camp Zama in Sagamihara, is the headquarters of Pacific Stars and Stripes.

According to investigators at the scene, it appears someone threw the bottles, which smashed and left glass shards and small puddles of thick red paint, sometime overnight Sunday. A security guard found the damage in the morning.

Japanese police and U.S. officials are investigating the case, the spokesman said.
