SEOUL — Several South Korean government officials agreed Thursday to set up a task force to discuss crimes involving U.S. servicemembers, according to a Ministry of Foreign affairs and Trade news release.

The Permanent Task Force of Relevant Bodies Related to USFK Crimes will meet and talk with U.S. officials as deemed necessary, according to the release.

Thursday’s meeting included representatives from the foreign ministry, the defense ministry, the police and the prime minister’s office. The group did not set a date for the first meeting of the newly named task force.

On Wednesday, foreign ministry officials also said that the Joint SOFA committee would meet in late November to discuss whether revisions are necessary to the bilateral status of forces agreement, which outlines procedure when military personnel are accused of a crime.
