YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — An additional campaign phase has been added for the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.

The move authorizes recipients to wear an additional campaign star on the ACM corresponding to this campaign phase. The new “transition” phase runs from July 1, 2011, through a date yet to be determined, according to a Pentagon news release.

Previously approved ACM campaign phases are Liberation of Afghanistan, from Sept. 11, 2001, to Nov. 30, 2001; Consolidation I, from Dec. 1, 2001, to Sept. 30, 2006; Consolidation II, from Oct. 1, 2006, to Nov. 30, 2009; and Consolidation III, from Dec. 1, 2009, through June 30, 2011.

ACM campaign stars recognize a servicemember’s participation in military campaigns in the ACM’s area of eligibility.

Servicemembers should contact their respective military departments for specific implementation guidance.
