Osan general to answer questions on weekly talk show
OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea — The 51st Fighter Wing commander is revamping his weekly radio show so the base community can take questions directly to him.
Brig. Gen. Maurice H. “Maury” Forsyth, who hosts a one-hour radio program starting at 8:05 a.m. every Tuesday on 88.5 Eagle FM, is going to a talk-radio format show in which residents can call or send him e-mails.
He took over the show, called “View From the Top,” from the wing’s previous commander, Brig. Gen. William Holland, who left last month. Holland typically interviewed guests about issues important to the base community.
“We’re vectoring the show in a new direction to have more people call in and we’re changing the name from ‘View From The Top’ to something new,” said 1st Lt. Tom Montgomery, a wing spokesman. The new show’s date and name have yet to be selected, he said.
They also may move the program to an afternoon time slot and want to get it televised on Channel 11, the commander’s access channel.
“What he’s going for is more of an interactive dialogue,” said 1st Lt. Jenny Lovett, the wing’s deputy public affairs chief.
“It’s the Osan base community show and it’s an outlet for them to just ask him whatever questions they have on their mind. It’s not supposed to take the place of the chain of command, obviously, but he wants people to just bombard him with questions, e-mails. He would really like to focus it on the people and the base community,” Lovett said.
If Forsyth can’t immediately answer a question, his staff will research it so he can respond on the following week’s show, Lovett said.
She said the wing will honor e-mail requests for anonymity and callers need not give their names. “They can do it anonymously as they want to, or let everybody know it’s them,” she said.
“This would be for everybody,” Lovett said: government civilians and spouses as well as active-duty airmen.
Besides calling the show during airtime at DSN 784-5555, community members can e-mail their questions or comments to the 51st Fighter Wing public affairs office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Instructions on how to call the show and scripts from previous show are available on the base’s Intranet system at https://wwwmil.osan.af.mil/51FW/51FW-PA/index.htm, Montgomery said.
“It’s a great way for the base to talk about pertinent issues,” Montgomery said. “Because it’s a weekly show, we can talk about stuff that’s important to the base and the boss.”
