‘Old Guard’ member charged with sexual crime
A member of the Old Guard Caisson Platoon, the self-proclaimed “face of the Army,” is being implicated in a child sex scandal, according to a report in D.C.-area WUSA9.
Spc. Matthew McKendrick, of Huntington, Va., was arrested and charged with carnal knowledge of a child, police said.
The Old Guard is “our nation’s Premier Memorial Affairs and Ceremonial Unit,” according to the unit’s web page. “Old Guard Soldiers are in Arlington National Cemetery daily rendering final honors to our fallen, both past and present.”
McKendrick was arrested following an online investigation by the Fairfax (Va.) County Child Exploitation Unit.
“Matthew McKendrick was arrested for the offense of Carnal Knowledge with a 13-14 year old Without Force and Indecent Liberties with a Minor. McKendrick’s request for bail was denied and he is currently confined in Fairfax County,” a spokesperson for the Old Guard said in a news release.
McKendrick is also being charged with Indecent Liberties with a Minor, WUSA9 reports local police as saying.
