Expect traffic delays at several bases Sunday when almost 10,000 runners are expected to compete in the 2005 13th Annual Okinawa Marathon.

The race starts at the Okinawa Comprehensive Park in Awase at 9 a.m. Lead runners are expected to reach Kadena Air Base’s Gate 2 around 10:30 a.m., with most runners leaving Gate 5 by 1:30 p.m. Base officials recommend limiting any driving on base between those times.

At Marine gates with limited entry and exit, priority will be given to runners crossing the road. When gaps appear, vehicles will be allowed to enter and exit the gates. If necessary, military police will create detour routes.

The following bases and gates will be affected by the race:

Camp McTureous: Limited entry and exit from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Camp Foster: Plaza housing Gate 8, limited entry and left turn only from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Gate 2 (PX), Gate 2C (Kishaba), Gate 1 and Gate 1B (Sgt.
