CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — An Okinawa-based Marine died Wednesday at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa on Camp Lester.
Staff Sgt. Reginald Burgess Jr., 30, from Dougherty, Ga., died at 7:09 p.m. after a brief illness, according to a release Friday.
Medical authorities are investigating the cause of death, the release said.
Burgess was the meteorology and oceanography platoon chief for 3rd Intelligence Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force, on Camp Hansen. He joined the Marine Corps in November 1996 and began his tour on Okinawa in July.
"The Marine Corps is saddened by the loss of Staff Sgt. Burgess, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time," said Maj. Joseph Dumont, the battalion commander, in the release.
