Officials with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain said a U.S. Navy sailor injured in a car wreck in Manama, Bahrain, last weekend was expected to live. The driver, also a sailor, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Oct. 7 accident.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at 1:25 a.m. while the two sailors were southbound on the Al Fatih highway. The car struck a light pole, officials said.
Navy officials said personnel assigned to the Navy base in Bahrain donated blood Tuesday in the injured sailor’s behalf. The Defense Department was expected to release the name of the deceased sailor this week. The accident is under investigation, authorities said.
