Officials clarify details of deaths of two soldiers in Ramadi
Two soldiers who died Feb. 2 in Iraq were killed when a heavy caliber round struck a nearby wall when they were at a forward post in Ramadi, Army officials clarified this week. Originally, officials said the soldiers were killed by small-arms fire while on a patrol in the city.
Spc. Alan McPeek, who was assigned to the 1st Armored Division’s Company A, 16th Engineer Battalion; and Pvt. Matthew T. Zeimer, who was with the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, were killed while at Combat Outpost Grant in central Ramadi.
McPeek was on his final mission before leaving Iraq and was showing the ropes to his replacement, Zeimer, when the attack occurred.
