Obama nominates ambassadors to Iraq and Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Wednesday nominated Lt. Gen. Karl Eikenberry as ambassador to Afghanistan and Christopher Hill as ambassador to Iraq.
Eikenberry, the deputy chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, was previously the head of Combined Forces Command in Afghanistan. He has also served in the U.S., South Korea and Italy.
Hill is State Department’s assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. He has been an ambassador to South Korea, Poland and Macedonia.
The Senate has not announced a time line for nomination hearings.
