AwardsRAF MILDENHALL — One unit and four airmen from RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath were named winners in various U.S. Air Forces in Europe award categories last month, Air Force officials said.
Three out of the five awards came from RAF Mildenhall.
Staff Sgt. Oscar Figueroa, a general-purpose vehicle mechanic with the 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron, won the 2006 Non-Commissioned Officers Association Vanguard Award. While on leave, Figueroa revived a collapsed man at a British airport by administering CPR.
The 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron also won the 2005 National Defense Transportation Association Military Unit Award for a variety of accomplishments in logistics and transportation.
For his stellar performance, Tech. Sgt. Keith A. Monson, a dedicated crew chief for a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft at the 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, earned the 2005 Outstanding Maintenance Individual Mobilization Augmentee of the Year Award. Monson is a reservist attached to the 100th.
Staff Sgt. Jason Marfell, assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing, earned the 2006 Air Force Sergeants Association Pitsenbarger Award, which is named after Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipient Airman 1st Class William Pitsenbarger.
Master Sgt. Hyon Lee, a superintendent for traffic management with the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron, became the 2005 Surface Deployment and Distribution Award winner for his primary duties and logistics contributions. While deployed to Qatar, Lee helped coordinate shipments toward the Pakistan earthquake relief effort.
