NAPLES, Italy — The Fitness Forum, the new gym built at the family support complex at Gricignano in Naples, will open Monday with a ceremony at 6 a.m., Naval Support Activity Naples officials said.
In addition to an outdoor pool, the gym offers two racquetball courts, a spin room with 26 stationary spin bikes, an aerobics room, free weight room, circuit weight area, cardio area, and men’s and women’s locker rooms with dry saunas.
The basketball court is lined for competition and intramural play and will have six backboards and three volleyball setups, base spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Jacky Fisher said. However, the court will not be available for basketball play on opening day, because the gym still is awaiting equipment delivery, but it will be set up for volleyball play, she said.
“The scope of our programs will include aerobics, spinning, yoga, Pilates, martial arts, personal training, as well as fitness testing and assessments,” she said. “Many of these programs will start on opening day.”
The recreational pool is scheduled to open in May on Memorial Day weekend and will operate through Labor Day. The pool features eight lanes along with a one-meter diving board and a 50-foot slide in the deep end, outdoor whirlpool and a children’s pool. The pool will offer seasonal water aerobics, swim lessons, water exercise, and military lap swim during the summer.
The facility’s normal operating hours will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and U.S. holidays.
