NORFOLK, Va. (Tribune News Service) — A civilian crashed into a base security vehicle in Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Va., on Saturday night, fatally injuring a sailor and leaving the suspect hospitalized, the Navy said.

The suspect, a male who has not been identified, entered the outbound lane at Gate 8 at roughly 7:35 p.m. Saturday, driving at a high rate of speed. He then crashed into the security vehicle, injuring himself and the master-at-arms, the Navy said.

Both were transported to the Virginia Beach General Hospital. The master-at-arms, who the Navy has not yet identified, died from injuries sustained during the crash.

The suspect remains in custody at the hospital.
