(Tribune News Service) — Some parts of Central Florida can expect the occasional boom in the distance as live bombing is scheduled to take place in the Ocala National Forest over the weekend.
According to a statement on Naval Air Station Jacksonville’s website, the Navy has planned training exercises for both inert and live bombing at the Pinecastle Range Complex for Jan. 17-19 with each day’s window running from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Navy posts its bombing information on its website. It also lists a phone number for noise complaints: 1-800-874-5059.
Northern Central Florida counties will be affected the most including Volusia, Lake and Marion counties, although past bombing range activities have reportedly been heard by Seminole and northern Orange County residents as well.
“During bombing periods wildlife may be temporarily displaced. Use extra caution when driving through the Ocala National forest and surrounding areas,” reads a statement on the NAS Jacksonville website. “Secure any items around your residence that could attract wildlife. Always be mindful of larger animals including black bears and practice bearwise measures.”
