CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking for a Marine who may have information regarding the July 17 robbery of an Okinawa cabbie in Naha, near Camp Kinser.

According to NCIS agent Jesseca Randall, the witness may have been in the Aja Port area, just south of Camp Kinser, when the cab driver was robbed at 12:15 a.m. by a passenger who held a knife to his throat.

“The person we are looking for is not a suspect but may have important information regarding the robbery,” Randall said Monday. The witness is believed to be a Marine, officials said, and is described as being a slender white male in his early 20s. He is between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall, with dark brown or black hair and no glasses or facial hair. He also has a tattoo on his left, lower forearm that appears to be a scorpion, she said.

An Okinawa police spokesman said the cabbie was robbed by a person described as a Southeast Asian male in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and stoutly built. The suspect was dressed in green camouflage fatigues and had short hair.

According to the police report, the man hailed the cab at the Naha port area and requested a ride to Aja Port, where he pulled out a knife with an 8-inch blade and held it to the 56-year-old driver’s throat.

He escaped with about 16,000 yen (about $150), the police spokesman said.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact Randall at the NCIS office on Camp Foster at DSN 645-0221 or 645-0213.
