The Military Traffic Management Command has been named winner of this year’s United Seamen’s Service Admiral of the Ocean Sea Award.

The agency selects two recipients each year. The award honors those who have made significant contributions to American shipping and seafarers.

The MTMC received the award for its part in supporting the military during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

MTMC is part of the U.S. Transportation Command, directing military shipping of everything from household goods to Army tanks. The command has more than 2,000 military and Department of Defense civilian personnel and has detachment at 24 shipping terminals worldwide.

United Seamen’s Service works to increase the welfare of American military and civilian maritime workers. They operate a network of seamans’ centers worldwide, providing various services for mariners.

The award will be presented in New York City later this year.
