MANNHEIM, Germany — A 24-year-old military police officer died Wednesday morning at a Mannheim hospital from injuries he suffered in an autobahn car crash over the weekend.

Spc. Christopher Seal, from Tampa, Fla., and assigned to the 272nd Military Police Company, died at the Mannheim Klinikum, according to an e-mail from Christine Gebhard, a spokeswoman for U.S. Army Garrison Mannheim.

Seal had been taken to the hospital by helicopter after the collision on Autobahn 67 near the Pfungstadt exit, according to the e-mail.

Gebhard could not be reached for information on the date and time of the accident or its apparent cause.

The e-mail said that Seal had been on his way to Frankfurt International Airport when a “major collision” occurred. Two other people in the vehicle were also injured, according to the e-mail.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Benjamin Franklin Village chapel.

Seal is survived by his mother, Barbara Estes; his father, Jody Seal; and a brother, Charles Cox, according to the e-mail.
