MANNHEIM, Germany — A 3rd Corps Support Command soldier was listed in critical condition Monday following a motorcycle accident last week in Mannheim, an Army spokesman said.

The Army specialist, who was not identified, was injured shortly before midnight Thursday, said Bruce Anderson, a spokesman for the 3rd COSCOM, which is headquartered in Wiesbaden. The accident happened on Friesenheimerstrasse in the Neckar section of Mannheim.

Three other soldiers who were with the soldier earlier in the evening witnessed the accident, Anderson said. They were in a car while the injured soldier was riding a motorcycle.

“They were at a social event together and were on their way home,” Anderson said.

The soldier was taken to a German hospital in Mannheim where he was listed in critical but stable condition Monday. For privacy purposes, Anderson could not release any particulars on the soldier’s injuries.

The specialist served as a driver with the command’s 181st Transportation Battalion, based in Mannheim.

Anderson said German and U.S. officials determined that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
