Motivation, leadership workshops held in Italy

NAPLES, Italy — American Women’s Activities, Germany held its first Italy area conference Tuesday on the Support Site in Gricignano in Naples.
The group is a private volunteer organization that helps volunteers.
The conference, attended by military and civilian men and women, consisted of workshops covering topics such as motivation and leadership.
“We thought the information given in the leadership presentation was really helpful, especially in our line of work,” said Luisa Mazzella, of the United Service Organizations in Naples.
According to the mission statement, AWAG trains, strengthens and connects volunteers, organizations and communities.
“We try to streamline information for all volunteers so they don’t have to re-invent the wheel every time they want to do something for their community,” said Juliet Davidson, chairwoman for AWAG.
“We want to keep our volunteers going, especially during times when military families are extremely busy supporting the mission.”
AWAG membership is open to any military identification card holder who dedicates time to volunteering.
With representatives throughout Germany and other military communities in Europe, AWAG offers a one-stop-shopping repository for information.
“If we don’t have the information our volunteers need for a particular activity, we will get that information for them,” said Consuelo Nguyen, the AWAG Italy area representative.
As its name implies, AWAG was formed in Germany in 1946, but it is looking to expand. In addition to Italy, the group is scheduled to hold a conference in the United Kingdom in November.
Davidson said the group also would like to expand to include Spain.
