MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Put down those Twinkies and get moving. May is National Physical Fitness and Sports month, and Misawa has numerous activities and programs planned to promote fitness and healthy eating. Activities are at the Potter Fitness Center unless otherwise noted, and include:

“Aerobathon” — Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the fitness center. Prizes will be awarded based on duration.Kickball Tournament — Saturday 11 a.m.Family Fitness and Amazing Race — Sunday 1 p.m.Marathon Monday — May 15 from 4:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Find out who can run the longest on a treadmill at 7 mph on a one-degree incline.500-Meter Freestyle Swim Race — May 16, noon at the base swimming pool. Ten laps to the finish.American Kids’ Day Run — May 20, 8 a.m. Call DSN 226-3220 for more details.Deuces Wild Bike Race — May 29, 8 a.m. Riders collect standard playing cards. Person with the best hand wins a prize. Call DSN 226-3982 for more information.Memorial Day Beach Bash Volleyball — May 29 at the base beach. Four-on-four volleyball tournament, coinciding with the “Biggest Loser” contest final weigh-in. Time to be determined.Fitness Pentathlon — May 31, 6 p.m. Six-person teams compete in swimming, push-ups, a 1.5-mile run, fireman-carry run and Humvee pull.Also this week, the Health and Wellness Center is sponsoring a “Fitness and Your Health” class at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Mokuteki Community Center conference room. Topics include how fitness lessens risk for cardiovascular illness, hypertension, high cholesterol and other diseases.

Another class, same location, on popular fad diets will be held on Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on Friday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Anyone can attend, but “Biggest Loser” participants have priority.
