MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — The Misawa First Sergeant Council is planning to hold a bake sale Feb. 5 to raise funds for victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami in South Asia.
“It’s one last effort to see what we can do,” said Master Sgt. Jerry Wilkerson, council vice president and first sergeant for 35th Mission Support Squadron and 35th Fighter Wing. “This will open it up to the Misawa community. There’s people out there who want to help but don’t know how to do it.”
Tables will be set up between the commissary and food court from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers may drop off baked goods starting at 8:30 a.m.
“We have enough volunteers to cover the booth. We just need volunteers to bake and donate,” Wilkerson said.
Also helping to organize the sale are Misawa’s Top 3, Air Force First Sergeants Association and Focus 5-6.
In conjunction with the bake sale, Misawa’s first sergeants are leading a tsunami relief donation drive among base squadrons and units, private organizations and individuals. Wilkerson said several thousand dollars have been raised to date. The council will combine those funds with bake sale proceeds to write one check to Misawa’s Red Cross for tsunami aid, he said.
