U.S. military officials are warning against a new e-mail virus that draws its victims by alleging the FBI is targeting one of the most popular social networking Web sites.

The e-mail mentions "F.B.I. vs. facebook" and supplies a link that allows malicious software named "Storm Worm" to infect the victim's computer or other Internet-connected device, according to a warning posted on the U.S. Forces Korea Web site on Thursday.

The victim is also linked into a "network comprised of machines under the control of a single user," who often conducts "criminal activity such as spam e-mail, identity theft, denial of service attacks, and spreading malware to other machines on the Internet," according to the warning.

People who receive the fraudulent e-mails should file a complaint at www.ic3.gov.
