Military honoring retirees living in Japan
MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — U.S. military retirees living in northern Japan are invited to several upcoming events in their honor.
The 7th annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day is planned for two days, Sept. 28 and 29, at Misawa Air Base.
“It’s to express appreciation for retirees’ long service to their country,” said retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Herman Tinnirella, Misawa Retiree Activities Office director.
The weekend kicks off with a “Military Retirees Night Out” at the Misawa commissary Sept. 28. The commissary manager will give retirees a tour of the facility from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Finger foods, games and prizes will follow, until 9 p.m. Retirees have the option of showing up at 6:50 p.m. if they want to skip the tour. They’re also welcome to bring one adult guest.
On Sept. 29, retirees and one adult guest are invited to a complimentary breakfast at the Mutsu Officers Club Ballroom from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The 35th Fighter Wing commander or vice commander is scheduled to be the guest speaker. The Sept. 29 events move to the base exchange main entrance from 9:50 a.m. to noon.
After a cake cutting, there will be sign-ups for drawings of gift certificates and merchandise — with prizes given out about every 15 minutes. A number of information booths will also be set up, with representation from the Misawa Retiree Activities Office, Misawa Military Retirees Association, Tricare, and the Health and Wellness Center. The HAWC will provide blood pressure screenings.
Reservations are required by Thursday for the commissary night out and the breakfast. Call DSN 226-4428 or 226-5675 from on base, or (0176) 64-4428/5675 from off base; or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
