Military chapels will be joining Jews within and outside their communities to observe the Rosh Hashanah and the Yom Kippur holidays this month.
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and is observed the first and second day of the Jewish calendar.
Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement and is considered the most sacred of the Jewish holidays. It is the time to confess sins and to restore one’s relationship with God.
Here is a sampling of the activities taking place:
Belgium¶ SHAPE: High Holy Days services will be held at the International Jewish Center in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah, and on Oct. 12 and 13 for Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Dow Marmur, rabbi emeritus of the Holy Blossom Synagogue in Toronto, Canada, and cantor Helga Brinkman will preside.

Germany¶ Heidelberg: The Jewish community will celebrate the Jewish New Year at Mark Twain Village Chapel at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, and at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with the Tashlich prayer at 3 p.m. There will be a community dinner at 6:30 p.m.

¶ Ramstein: The South Side Interfaith Center will observe Rosh Hashanah on Tuesday and Wednesday and Yom Kippur on Oct. 13.
Additional holiday observances will be Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 24-25 for Sukkot, which celebrates the harvest, and Oct. 26 for Simchat Torah, marking the end of the cycle of Torah readings and the beginning of the new cycle.

¶ Würzburg: The Jewish community will celebrate the Jewish New Year at the chapel on Leighton Barracks at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, and at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
There will be a community dinner at the home of Anne Cohn on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Italy¶ Naples: Rosh Hashanah services will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. on Monday at Gricignano support site chapel, followed by dinner at the Fellowship Hall.

U.K.In the U.K., chapel officials are undecided whether Yom Kippur events at RAF Mildenhall, England, will be at the chapel or the nearby town of Cambridge, according to the base public affairs office. A decision was scheduled to be made on Monday.
