The Veterans of Foreign Wars hope to send eight wounded veterans to Daytona International Speedway as a thank you for their sacrifice.

The contest, open to servicemembers worldwide who have received a Purple Heart for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan, includes airfare and hotel costs along with a ticket to the Pepsi 400 on July 15.

Interested veterans must mail in entries by April 15. VFW officials said the winner will be chosen from that pool, and must be prepared to verify their wounded-in-action status.

Funding for the trip is provided through the group’s Ralph Charles Kahle Jr. endowment fund, earmarked specifically for recreational events for wounded servicemembers.
