The task force in charge of U.S. detainee operations in Iraq will be getting a new deputy commander, the Pentagon announced late Wednesday.

Rear Adm. Lothrop S. Little, who is in charge of the Navy Reserve Forces Command in New Orleans, has been assigned the duties at Task Force 134 in Iraq.

The task force, which oversees some 19,000 U.S. detainees in the country, is led by another Navy officer, Rear Adm. Garland Wright.

Wright, who assumed command in June, had been the deputy commander between August 2007 and June 2008.

The detainee system in Iraq has undergone several reforms in recent years, with a focus this year on reducing the number of people held and transferring more responsibilities to the Iraqi system.
