MANAMA, Bahrain — A sailor died Sunday from a non-hostile-related gunshot wound aboard the USS Gladiator while the ship was in port at the U.S. Navy base in Bahrain, the Navy said.

The Navy is investigating the circumstances of the death, said Cmdr. Kevin Stephens, spokesman for 5th Fleet, which has its headquarters in Bahrain. He said there was no indication of foul play.

The identity of the sailor will not be released until after notification of family, in accordance with Department of Defense policy.

The USS Gladiator, an Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship, is assigned to 5th Fleet.
