A service member died Tuesday in a noncombat-related incident while participating in a training exercise in the United Arab Emirates, Marine Corps Forces Central Command announced Wednesday.
The incident, which occurred during an exercise called Native Fury 20, is under investigation, according to the news release. The service member’s name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
Native Fury 20 began Sunday and includes thousands of U.S. troops as well as UAE forces. The live-fire and maneuver training exercise, which demonstrates the ability to respond to contingencies, natural disasters and other possible crises in the region, has taken place every other year since 2008. This was the seventh iteration.
