STUTTGART, Germany — A memorial service will be held Friday for the two Stuttgart military community men killed in a car crash Sunday.
The service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Patch Chapel for Corey D. Jackson and Shawn D. Witherspoon. Jackson is the spouse of Air Force Staff Sgt. Shawnita L. Jackson. Witherspoon, 19, had attended Patch American High School and worked at the Burger King at Patch Barracks. They were returning from Darmstadt.
Witherspoon was described by his father as a “person who always wanted to make people laugh.”
“No one he met would remain a stranger. He made sure he knew them,” said Sylvester Witherspoon, who has lived in the Stuttgart area since 1981. “He was always laughing and smiling.”
The teen-ager had lived his entire life in Germany.
The two men died early Sunday on the autobahn outside Heilbronn after the car they were in collided with a truck and exploded into flames.
Witherspoon and Jackson were in a U.S. model car when the accident occurred around 7:40 a.m. Rescue crews at the scene could not pull the Americans out because the flames were too intense.
