DARMSTADT, Germany — A memorial service will be held today for Lorraine Colvin, an active member of the Darmstadt community and its Catholic congregation, who died Sunday while vacationing in Pennsylvania. She was 54.
Colvin suffered a heart attack Friday and died Sunday. The service will be at 6 p.m. in the Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne chapel in Darmstadt.
Chap. (Lt. Col.) Jack Herron, the Darmstadt garrison chaplain, said Colvin selflessly volunteered her time to the church. She had dedicated herself to training and taking care of the altar servers — a group of about 15 youths — to make sure they knew what they were doing and were rewarded for their service, Herron said.
“You don’t need to call attention to what she does, she just does it,” he said. “... Somebody who’s going to care for those kids like she did is just going to have a big position to fill.”
The family will hold a funeral in Latrobe, Pa., with burial in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Colvin is survived by her husband, Perry, an Army civilian who works for the 5th Signal Command in Mannheim, and their daughter, Christine, 14.
