TOKYO — The Sagamihara city mayor visited the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo on Tuesday to protest unconfirmed media reports that the U.S. Army’s I Corps Headquarters may relocate to Camp Zama, city officials said.

Mayor Isao Ogawa also delivered a petition with 210,000 resident signatures against the reported relocation plan. It was the Ogawa’s second embassy visit about the matter, officials said.

The mayor released a statement after the meeting that an embassy official told him his message will be relayed to the ambassador and the president.

The mayor also asked for changes to helicopter flight procedures at Camp Zama.
