CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Authorities have identified the Marine who fell to his death in Nago two weekends ago as Cpl. Nicholas Bailey.

The 25-year-old from King George, Va., died in the early morning of May 12 after falling from a bridge in Nago’s Yofuke district.

Bailey, who joined the Marine Corps in October 2005, was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Both military and local police are still investigating the cause of the incident.

“Whether he committed suicide, accidentally fell or foul play is involved, we are investigating from every angle while working closely with the Marine Corps,” a spokesman for Okinawa prefectural police in Nago said. According to Okinawan authorities, a taxi driver picked up Bailey in Nago around 2 a.m. the night he died and dropped him off in an isolated area of the city.

The driver told police Bailey got out of the cab, walked to a nearby bridge and jumped.

Bailey’s body was later found in the bushes below by local police and firefighters.
