HILTON HEAD, S.C. (Tribune News Service) — A 24-year-old Marine died after he lost control of his motorcycle while driving at a high rate of speed in the Boundary and Charles streets area Monday night, according to a Beaufort Police Department news release.
Police were sent to the scene at about 6:50 p.m., the release says.
Kyle Martin Stout of Beaufort died after the motorcycle he was driving struck a tree, Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott said Wednesday.
Witnesses in the area saw the driver in a verbal argument with a driver of another vehicle just before the accident, the release said. After the altercation, the motorcyclist drove north on Boundary Street.
He was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries, the release says.
Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott said Tuesday he was unable to release the name of the victim until the next of kin were notified.
The Marine Corps confirmed the motorcyclist was one of their own.
Stout was a corporal assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort as a military police officer, according to a news release from the base. He joined the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron on May 31, 2015 and was promoted to corporal on Sept. 1, 2017.
