JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (Tribune News Service) — No charges have been filed as an investigation continues into the case of two rifles that went missing in a training area last month aboard Camp Lejeune.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service initiated an investigation Dec. 18 after the two service rifles and a flak jacket were reported missing but said Monday the investigation is ongoing and they could not comment further.

Jeff Houston with NCIS Public Affairs confirmed the items remain missing and said no charges have been filed at this time.

First Lt. Dan Linfante, a spokesman for the 2nd Marine Division, referred questions about the unaccounted for items to NCIS due to the ongoing investigation.
